Abstract
The objectives of this research were 1) to analyze the canonical correlation between Hiri - Ottappa and attitudes towards corruption, and 2) to examine the influences of Hiri - Ottappa and the attitudes towards corruption. The sample consisted of 1,109 students from grades 7 to 12 from schools under the Secondary Educational Service Area 18 in Rayong province, who were selected by multi - stage random sampling technique. The research instrument was the questionnaire on Hiri - Ottappa and the attitudes towards corruption. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, canonical correlation analysis and path analysis (SEM) of Hiri - Ottappa and the attitude scales. The research findings revealed that:1) The canonical correlation between Hiri – Ottappa variable and attitudes towards corruption variable was 0.389, statistically significant at the level 0.05, and the covariate of the relationship (Rc2) was at 0.149 (14.90%). The correlation in each set of variables mostly resulted from Ottappa variable (Rc =0.863), and behavior trend towards corruption variable (Rc = 0.942).2) The validation results of the effect of Hiri-Otappa on attitudes towards corruption showed that the model was congruent to empirical data (x2/df = 0.372, AGFI=0.998, RMSEA=0.000). The Hiri – Otappa variable had a direct influence on the negative attitudes towards corruption at 0.655 (Y = -0.655). The path coefficient of Hiri-Otappa to attitudes towards corruption with significance level at 0.05. The determination of attitudes towards corruption was 42.90 %.
