The Democratic Political Culture of People in Amphur
Sichon, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
The objectives of this article were to : 1) study the democratic political culture of people, 2) study problems, obstacles, and guidelines in developing democratic culture at the local level. The samples were 400 residents of Amphur Sichon, Nakhon Si Thammarat province, selected by using Taro Yamane approach and stratified sampling method. The data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and F-test. The results showed that 1) the majority of respondents were male (56.4 %), the age range was between 31 – 40 years old (38.1%) with lower than bachelor’s degree (59.8%) and earned less than 15,000 Bath monthly (50.1%). 2) The respondents’ knowledge and understanding of political culture was at high level (x̄ = 4.26), as well as their involvement in political activities (x̄= 4.14). 3) The different level of education and income affected the level of knowledge and understanding of political culture, as well as the level of involvement in political activities at the significant level of 0.001. However, gender and age differences had no effect on democratic culture of people. The findings also revealed that people in Amphur Sichon, Nakhon Si Thammarat province lived in Participant Political Culture, which is a political culture of people who have knowledge and understanding of political system and realize the importance of participating in political activities.
